Northern Branch Corridor Project

New Jersey Transit proposes to address the transportation needs of eastern Bergen County, NJ by restoring passenger rail service along more than twelve miles of existing track along the Northern Branch Corridor between North Bergen and Tenafly. The project will involve new tracks, ten new stations, bridges, viaducts, retaining walls, and vehicular base facilities.

Yu & Associates (YU) was retained as the Geotechnical and Environmental Engineer to investigate and obtain subsurface information for the preliminary design of the project. The project conditions varied from the deep deposits of soft soil of the Meadowlands in the south to the shallow but variable rock in the north. Over 60 geotechnical borings, 60 geoprobe borings and 15 groundwater observation/monitoring wells were performed for geotechnical and environmental investigations. Field Exploration Work Plan & Health and Safety Plan preparation, document research, boring and sampling analyses, data evaluation, foundation evaluation, lateral earth pressure analysis, and engineering reports were included among our scope of work.
