This structure was designed to cross over a lake and to serve as the only means of access to a residential housing development. The challenge in designing this bridge, which is located off of State Route 22 on Van Horne Road, was that it needed to be aesthetically pleasing to the surrounding community while being economical, easy to maintain, cause the least disruption to the aquatic environment and be structurally sound.
YU & Associates (YU) designed a three span prestressed box beam concrete bridge, carrying two lanes of vehicular traffic with pedestrian sidewalks. The design services included the design and analysis of the prestressed concrete box beams, electrometric bearings, reinforced concrete piers, abutments and wing walls, safety features and other associated site improvements. In addition, subsurface and geotechnical investigations were performed to determine the bearing capacity of the supporting sub grade. This structure was designed in accordance with AASHTO and the New Jersey Department of Transportation standards, and was reviewed and approved by the Hunterdon County Bridge and Highway Engineering Department. Construction support services and shop drawing review were provided during the installation of the structure. This bridge was completed on schedule and within budget.
