As part of the East Side Access project, which will provide a new link to Grand Central Terminal for improving access to Manhattan’s East Side for commuters in the Long Island Transportation Corridor, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA)/Long Island Railroad (LIRR) designed and constructed a new facility at Highbridge Yard in the Bronx to replace the storage and maintenance functions currently performed in Madison Yard in Grand Central Terminal.
YU & Associates, Inc. (YU) provided site/civil engineering services for the design of a new fueling facility at the proposed Highbridge Yard Railroad facility. YU was responsible for the site, utility, fuel delivery, fuel spill prevention and containment, underground storage tank (UST), and pump station design for this portion of this design/build contract. The design included storm water management to contain the volume of runoff from a 100-year storm and a catastrophic fuel spill. The Stromwater/fuel containment system relies on the use of an electronically actuated valve to prevent the fuel entrance to a Stromwater pump station. YU was also responsible for the design and specifications for spill containment of a 1000-gallon UST.
