YU & Associates, Inc. (YU) was retained by the New Jersey Schools Construction Corporation to provide engineering services for renovations and additions to the existing Julia A. Barnes School (PS-12) in Jersey City. The project consists of the renovation of 45,000 SF of the existing school building and the construction of a 28,000 SF addition. YU was retained to be the Civil, Geotechnical and Environmental Engineer for the project.
Additional improvements to the site include a new student play area and renovation of the staff parking lot. The location of the project in a congested urban environment requires innovative solutions to solve sewer and utility relocation issues.
Services include site engineering documents for all phases of the project from schematic design through construction as well as obtaining regulatory approvals required for construction.
Also YU performed hazmat inspections including asbestos lead base paint, PCB, mercury and radon investigation as well as abatement design and asbestos removal cost estimate.
