NYSDEC – Greenpoint Apollo Street Site

As part of the investigation at the Greenpoint Apollo Street Site, resulting from the discovery of an approximately 17-million gallon petroleum spill in 1978, YU & Associates (YU) has participated in activities related to the clarification of the overall extent and behavior of petroleum contamination, to petroleum recovery and to air quality.

YU’s ongoing responsibilities include bulkhead seepage investigations, Newtown Creek water quality inspections, and bulkhead undercut evaluations, New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) air quality sampling, sub-slab soil vapor sampling, groundwater sampling, influent/effluent treatment water sampling and visual inspections, and soil sampling. In addition, YU performs bi-monthly inspections of Potentially Responsible Party (PRP) petroleum recovery and site remediation activities as a NYSDEC representative. PRPs include ExxonMobil, Chevron, and BP.
