MSU on Campus Parking Garage

Encompassing 200 acres, Montclair State University (MSU) is New Jersey’s largest teaching university and the second largest educational institution in the state. Due to a burgeoning student population and ever expanding campus facilities, MSU has worked on numerous projects over the years related to overall parking management. As part of this endeavor MSU has constructed a new 1500 car parking garage on Campus. YU & Associates, Inc. (YU) provided site/civil, geotechnical and environmental engineering services for this project.

YU performed a field subsurface exploration and a geotechnical engineering evaluation to evaluate foundation systems and develop design recommendations. YU’s scope of work also included a Phase 1 Environmental Assessment, an Executive Order 215 Environmental Assessment for compliance and topographic survey in addition to preparation of final construction documents. The site design included site layout, utility design, stormwater management, design of access roadways to the new garage and all necessary regulatory permitting. Stormwater management included both quality and quantity controls. These were accomplished by the use of a StormFilter® unit situated on top of a concrete box culvert due to the limited site area afforded by the existing surface lot which was being replaced.
